Solidworks will now begin to transfer your licenses off your machine. On the next screen, click “Select All”, choose whether you wish to transfer the license automatically over the internet or manually via e-mail, verify your email address and click “Next”. In Solidworks 2016, this option has been renamed to “Deactivate Licenses”. To deactivate your license on versions of Solidworks 2015 and older, simply go to Help -> Transfer License (on the machine you wish to deactivate). SIMPLY UNINSTALLING THE SOFTWARE WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY DEACTIVATE YOUR LICENSE ON THAT MACHINE. This will remove the license off your old machine and allow you to transfer it onto your new one. If you’d like to use Solidworks on another computer but have already used your activation in your standalone license, you must deactivate the computer that is already activated in order to use Solidworks on another machine. Having different users sharing one standalone license key is a violation of Solidworks EULA (see bottom of section 1.D). The purpose of the standalone license (or "Single-user license) is to provide a way for users to access Solidworks not only from their work computer, but from their home computer as well (as needed).
Solidworks utilizes a serial number license key in order to control the amount of content that a user is allowed to access while working.
